Meet the Designer – Design by Tangee

Meet the Designer

Designer & Owner Tangee Pritchett
I love designing beautiful things, I hope you find something beautiful for yourself or someone you love!
Design by Tangee is a modern luxury lifestyle brand handcrafted in Chicago.  Designer Tangee Pritchett started the company designing custom luxury bedding in faux suede & leather in 1996.  The collections sold in upscale home boutiques, were featured in local, national and international media such as Chicago Tribune Home, Chicago Social, Essence & the book Sleeping Spaces.
After designing a handbag for herself using the faux suede used in the bedding collection with a coconut shell handle, an unintentional handbag collection was born.  In 2000 the Fashion Group International of Chicago honored Tangee Handbags with the Style Makers & Rule Breakers award and in 2001 Marshall Field's bestowed the collection with Distinction In Design award. The collection sold in Marshall Field's Chicago Designer's Shop as well as Chicago's upscale boutiques P45, Ultimo, Elements and Lille and many national boutiques.  Local & national media Lucky Mag, Entertainment Weekly, Chicago Social, Today's Chicago Woman to name a few helped create buzz.  Celebrities fans soon followed like Halle Berry, Regina King, Bai Ling, Vanessa & Angela Simmons and Caroline Sunshine. Desperate Housewives costume designer Cate Adair styled Tangee clutch in an episode worn by Eva Longoria.
2009 brought a new product, Couture Clip - Inspired by a new baby of course!  A modern luxury line of bows, binkie & toy holders for stylish littles everywhere designed in luxurious cashmere, leather and organic cotton.  A portion of Couture Clip sales is donated to First Candle, a nonprofit health organization working to create stillbirth awareness, a cause very dear to my heart.  In 2004 my first pregnancy ended in stillbirth.  I knew I wanted to create a product to help create awareness.  The strength and courage to do so came with a beautiful baby girl in 2009.  I look forward to what she inspires next!
